Art is the colour of life: art wherever!
These few words perfectly resume our main activity and the philosophy with which we conceive the concept of dance: we want to create a positive contest for those who want to approach the dance environment breading a fresh air... a learning contest which face our surrounding contemporary word, and which can open the minds of our young students.
High level teachers coming from Italy and abroad will bring to Umbertide the best teaching of dance, from classic to contemporary dance and hip-hop: becuase of our dance activity which regularly brings us around the world, we want to transfer to our students all the experiences we accumulated along the years, along the festivals, over the hundreds of stages... We want to bring to them the techincs we learned sharing with our students the concept of "multi-disciplines" ( including choreography ).
Artistic sensibility, technic, and expressive capacity: these are our goals for a dance school dedicated to those who really love to dance, and to become the "artist you always aimed to be"!
The students of our "School of dance by Oplas" will have the chance to make their experience reacher and reacher thanks to the events organised at the Theatre Oplas ( live music, dance and acting performances ), being a real cultural centre for the local comunity.

ENZO CELLI and the Co. BOTEGA
Hip-Hop

The dance Co. Botega had been created on 1995 upon an idea of the choreographer Enzo Celli. Within the company different expressive formes are merged, such as the many artistic experiences which are at the base of the dance creation: hip-hop and contemporary dance are certainly the most.

The contamination among the different styles permitted to introduce in the dance research also other elements from the acrobatic and the circus environment: the result is an exciting mixture made by dinamic, atletic and an irresistible power thanks to which the company received an undenaible success among a national and international audience. Also for the Co. BOTEGA dance is conceived such as a mean through which to educate the youngest giving them, by the same time, a great professional chance to become an artist.
This collaboration with the "School of Dance by Oplas" ( Choreographic Regional Centre in Umbria ) is part of a national project lead by the Co. Botega since few years already ( CAP ) to promote a professional training to educate and prepare the young artist for the professional career.

Is the third creation conceived for the regional cultural project "Spettacolo Umbria", as the epylog of an artistic research started with the two previous dance creations "LOVE" (2007) and "Spazi di Nessuno" (2008).
Once again the focus is on the human being, as the unique protagonist of the relationships among the people in the contemporary time.
The past, the present and the future: a closing cycle opening into another such as a ring of a chane linked to the following one where everyone of us is the main protagonist.

NEW CREATION 2010

a live_dance_painting performance

clip-video IN-DOOR
clip-video OUT-DOOR
The performance is part of a multi-discipline creative project developed during years of intensive artistic research. The project is composed by several phases: the live dance-painting performance, the video dance docu-fiction, the exhibition of the paintings made for the film production, and a brochure which resumes everything as been realized.
The main goal of the project was to establish - or better saying "to re-establish" - a dialogue between "contemporary art" and "being contemporary on art", according to the experiences of few artists, creators and performers daily worried by their own creative requirements ( themes already discussed on last dance production 2007, "LOVE" ).
The project investigates with any possible motivation which leads the artist to create: what purpose is disguised behind the action of the hand which spreads the colours through the canvas? What is the real motivation for the painting act? What's hidden behind the doubt which cancels the previous image, ready to draw a new one...?

And more: What strength moves the arm of the dancer? Which thought pushes him rather to stop him? Why to use a body to express and to relate a feeling... and which feeling moves a body?

And finally: is a main engine existing at the base of any creative act? Or maybe a secret alchemy is the reason of everything? Either it is just a mere ramble, the aware of being not conscious: a concept behind which pearls of wisdom are often dissimulated.
The live-dance-painting experience is enriched by several points of contact between the performer ( dancer, painter, poet, musician, film-maker... ) and the space around him, which is also in constant evolution because of the relation "cause-effect": such a "work-in-progress" makes every performance different, while the audience will be able to choose between two opposite points of view thanks to the particular scenery concept!

live concert by string ensemble with dance

The performance is a deep meditation on the human being and in particularly on women: a reflection on the discrepancy which merges the appearances to the reality on the daily life. What comes out is a saga on love, a picture on couple's relationships and, above all, the fact of being alone facing any personal choice and style of life. Inside of a couple's system of life we can find plans and rules which are constantly broken and reinvented: only the human being survives in this eternal fight (even if it is surely not unchangeable!), so far than its own personal story, its own micro-cosmos... and the right to the existance in dispute of the choosen style of living.

Very important to the contemporary research and result is the unusual employment of Vivaldi's Four Seasons Concert - live performed and adapted for directing's needs -.

in 2001 OPLAS officially replaces La Terra Nuova Ass. Cult. ( created on 1993, resident dance company in Umbria, Italy ).
On 2003 becomes the Umbria Regional Choreographic Center ( CCRUmbria ).
Since 2008 OPLAS receives the support of the MiBAC ( Italian Ministry for Culture and Arts ) as a "dance company" ( Art. 8 ).
Since 2007 to 2009 was part of the project “Spettacolo Umbria”, supported by the Region of Umbria and the MiBAC ( Italian Ministry of Culture ). Within this project OPLAS already created three dance performances ( “LOVE”, 2007; “SPAZI DI NESSUNO”, 2008; “TOUCH”, 2009 ).
Since 15 years OPLAS produces dance performances for the in-door and the out-door venues ( the so called "un-usual and un-conventional venues" ) hosted at the most important festivals of the EU, of the Eastern Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, the USA and Caribes.

Some of these performances received international prices:

- "Mamma Roma", the Prix as the best contemporary dance performance at the X Prix Volinine, Paris (F)

- "Carmen", the Audience Prix at the Festival "Al Carrer" in Vila-real (E);
- "C'era una volta un lago dei cigni", the Prix as the best walk-acts at the Koblenz Festival (D);
- "Carmen", the Prix "Na Pomostach" (best performance) at the Int. Festival of Olsztyn (PL)

- "Julieta e Romeo", the Prix as the best open-air performance at the VIII Feria de Teatro de Castilla Y Leon, Ciudad Rodrigo (E).

The principles of the artistic contamination and experimentation are at the basemant of the decennial artistic path led by the company: always new theatrical technics are brought into the research, and new expressive ways are studied, while contemporary dance is always the main protagonist. Video creations, installations, pyrotechnics, water effects are part of the play...
In the past OPLAS organised important cultural events such as: "Dance, Theatre and more" (Umbertide, 1993-1998), "Umbrian Dance School Meeting" (Umbertide, 1995-1997); "Open Stage Choreographies" (Umbertide, 1995-1997), "Festinvaltiberina" (Umbertide and Montone, 1997-2007).
Other important festival evenings had been hosted by OPLAS, such as "Ballet", "Metronome", "Percussionistica", "Sagra Musicale Umbria".
Actually the company is promoting other important cultural events such as: "Impronte" and "Impronte di danza" ( Regional Dance Circuit ).
Last opening at OPLAS is the video-room equipped with 2 HD cameras ( PANASONIC E200 ) and two different computers ( one PC and one Mac ) with softwares for the post-production ( Canopus for the HD quality and Pinnacle for the DV ).
Within the project “SPAZI DI NESSUNO” OPLAS realized a video-dance feature in HD quallity shot in between Umbria and the South East Asia, which is now in competition in different film festival across the world.

With this performance the dance company OPLAS reaches its highest level on the technique developed dancing on stilts, thanks to which the company is world-wide known. The director endows a more aesthetic approach, keeping concentrated on the powerful images rather than the story. Almost no scenes, bringing the attention of the audience to the acrobatics on stilts and to the choreographies performed by the amazing dancers of the company.

The dramaturgy goes back to a more haestetic apporach, making a focus on a story made by images rather than a true story., even if – by the end of the show - anyone will deduct his own interpretaion of the show.

The performance was first staged in Dresden (D) on 2005, and then was staged in a longer version in different Italian and German festivals.

A group op performers is moving around within the urban context: light shades coming from a non-natural space spread across the streets and the squares to curiously discover the local architectures and their inhabitants.

Shadows of past lives are sliding along the ancient paths looking for their lost bodies.

The Unicorn gives hopeness to these strange presences, witness of other lives, and they shyly walk around...
They adorn themselves in old hair-style and the body with clothes which outline the previous noble owners of former time.
... And the moment comes when the magic song of the flute will spread through the air
waking up the glorious loves of amazing spring times from this eternal sleep
together with the envies which were the reasons of horrible fights! Death will enter the scene once again, unexpected as usually,
and the shadows who dared to hope will be ravished once again by their life by a flock of greedy birds...

On September 2003, during a tour in Cuba guest of the Int. Theatre Festival of La Habana, OPLAS meets the Consejo Nacional Artes Escenica de Cuba: this was the start of a profitable artistic which brouth OPLAS to conceive the project “A theatre for Cuba and the world” supported in Italy by the Region of Umbria, the Province of Perugia and the Municipality of Umbertide (PG) and Soliera (MO). The project was composed by two steps: the first step was the creation of Luca Bruni's ballet "Misa en Piso" ( January 2004 ) for Danza Conteporanea de Cuba, in La Habana, staged at the famous Garcia Lorca Theatre in the Cuban capital. The second steps was the creation with OPLAS of the performance “Julieta e Romeo” ( April/May 2004 ) which premiere was staged at the Festival "Tete-àtete" in Rastat (D) on May 2004.
On the wall of La Habana we read everywhere that "ideas are stronger than arms": we do believe this, and we also strongly believe that culture is more than an idea, rather a strong wind which can go through any borders built by men, an unretainable force shared by all the wise people and feared only in those places where oppression is sovereign.
The performance is dedicated to the experience the company lived in this cuban land, to the people met during the three months spent there sharing with them happyness and sadness. For this reason we consider the show not a performance on Cuba, rather for Cuba. So far the drama perfectly merges with the local context that we might think that Shakespeare had written his drama for the cubans! Julieta – a local young girl - and Romeo – a foreigner- are two of the thousand young people hanging around in La Habana along the Malecon, today like hundreds of years ago... for them the concept of love is stronger than any obstacle, even than death: suspended in between the hell and the purgatory, guilty of commiting suicide, they will be the protagonist of a wrong and violent world, so bliind to the real love, and they will be able to face their destiny.

Everyone of us is a king within the walls of his own castle: but what can happen when several kings are obliged for a coincidence to cohabit in a same, small garden?

Every king will have the chance to say his own story and, in such a way, to be confronted with the others, till the point to love either to fight each other...

The two anaware owners of the gardens will find themselves invaded by these strange characters here bordered by the perspective of an imminent catastrophe: at first the two will react curiously and with hospitality toward the hosts, listening to their old stories but finally, facing another last battle, they will succeded in convining the kins that the only way to survive is the reciproc respect.

The performance, while using the language of contemporary dance, largely employs other theatrical techniques such as puppets and video projections, to tell a story as old as the world: the mutuale cohabitation among the people.
